

Repositioning Pressure Injuries: "Shifting mindsets and transforming culture to support practice excellence"
On Friday, November 21, 2025, provincial and federal leaders, healthcare administrators, and interprofessional experts came together in-person and online to improve Pressure Injury (PI) prevention and management across Canada for our second annual Canadian Pressure Injury Summit.
This summit aligned with Worldwide Pressure Injury Prevention Day, which took place on November 20, 2025, aimed at raising awareness about pressure injury prevention and educating the public. Attendees contributed to a nationwide effort to improve patient outcomes and shape the future of pressure injury prevention and management.

About the Summit

Attendees engaged in presentations & participated in crucial conversations identifying gaps in national PI care, and discussed solutions in alignment with the CPIAP Strategic Plan. Both in-person & online, this event provided a unique platform to learn, network, and collaborate for impactful change.
Attendees had a dedicated time to network with fellow healthcare professionals, industry experts, and representatives from government and administration during the scheduled breaks.

Sandra Young is an innovative health care leader with 35 years of experience in advanced practice nursing, senior leadership, patient safety, quality improvement and project management, research, education, policy and regulation.
As Executive Director, Standards and Education at Health Standards Organization, she drives evidence-informed strategies for standards development, integration, education, and the QMentum program; with a focus on reliable safety practices and integrated people centered care. With a proven track record in strategic leadership, quality improvement, and policy development, she has held senior roles across multiple sectors, elevating healthcare excellence.
Sandra was the first graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program in Western Canada and has practiced in advanced practice nursing in both Canada and the United States in fetal, neonatal and pediatric intensive care and community-based follow-up care for mothers and babies for the first 23 years of her career.
Sandra has served as the Chief Professional Practice Officer for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, and the Standards and Practice Director for respite, supportive, long-term care, mental health, palliative and hospice care across two provinces with Age Care.
She holds extensive experience in improving patient flow and patient experience across sites and sectors especially during the pandemic focused on emergency care. Sandra also led the clinical project management of a 189-bed pandemic response unit, constructed and commissioned within 16 weeks.

You are invited to submit an abstract to highlight and showcase your Pressure Injury Initiatives, or your team’s or organization’s initiatives, aligned with the key strategic priorities of the Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel:

Abstract Details:
Word Limit: Maximum 250 words (excluding references)
Template: Include Aim, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Creative submissions such as artwork are welcome; please provide background, aim/purpose, and key messages in relation to pressure injury prevention and management. Do not include author or affiliation details within the abstract body.
Attendance: The primary author of accepted abstracts is encouraged to attend the CPIAP Summit to present their work in person or virtually.
If attending virtually, please provide a contact email for questions. Confirmation of participation is required by Friday, November 7, 2025.
Most Impactful Abstract Award: All accepted abstracts will be celebrated at the Summit. One abstract will be recognized as the “Most Impactful” based on alignment with CPIAP Strategic Priorities.
Voting will combine 60% input from CPIAP Executive and Board Members and 40% from in-person attendees.
